News: Earth Day - A Bradley timepiece made from recycled ocean plastic?

Environmental issues were front and center as Earth Day arrived in April. Respecting our planet and living sustainably is something we care deeply about; and are striving towards, at Eone, so Earth Day was the perfect time to highlight these important issues to our community.

In October 2020, we ran a ‘design your own Eone’ competition for #WorldSightDay and were awed by the number of amazing submissions. One particular submission by Oliver Perretta, raised the question of whether we “could make the timepiece from recycled ocean plastic”? Oliver kindly created this amazing visualization for Earth Day, building on the theme of “abstract time” - its importance in our solar system, planets, and environment.

We unveiled the Terrazzo visual render of the Bradley Timepiece on our social media. Made from recycled plastic waste from the ocean, it highlights the issue of marine pollution and the importance of recycling and sustainability. Orbiting the timepiece is Earth and a smaller planet, also made from recycled plastic.

Just as Eone timepieces demonstrate how accessible design can be beautiful, the Terrazzo showed how sustainable design could look spectacular whilst preserving our planet’s resources. It got the community talking and over a thousand people commented and entered the competition we ran to win an Eone Timepiece.

Many of you asked if we would make the design a reality, which we would love to do, but much research needs to be done before that could happen. Our team have however, been exploring more sustainable materials to further reduce our environmental impact. It is an important goal to us, and we will continue to work towards it, because a better world is not only more inclusive, but also more sustainable too.
